Mental Health and Wellbeing

At Holy Trinity CE Primary School, we believe that good mental health and emotional wellbeing are just as important as physical health. Children learn best when they feel safe, happy and supported, and we are committed to creating a caring environment where every child can thrive.

We recognise that all children experience worries or challenges from time to time. Our staff work closely with children and families to identify concerns early and provide the support they need. Whether a child is struggling with friendships, anxiety, bereavement, changes at home or other emotional difficulties, we are here to help.

If you are concerned about your child's mental health or emotional wellbeing, we encourage you to speak to us. Working together, we can identify the most appropriate support and, where needed, access additional services.

Promoting Positive Mental Health

Children's mental health and wellbeing are developed throughout school life. We teach Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) using the Kapow Primary scheme of work, helping children to develop resilience, emotional literacy, healthy relationships and strategies for managing their feelings.

We are also proud to be an Emotionally Friendly School and are committed to creating a nurturing environment where children feel safe, respected and able to talk about their emotions. Our staff work hard to build positive relationships and ensure that every child knows there is a trusted adult they can turn to.

Emotional Support in School

We have two trained Emotional Literacy Support Assistants (ELSAs) who provide additional emotional support for children when they need it.

Mrs Paula Nield, our Pastoral Lead, and Mrs Harrop are trained ELSAs who work with children individually or in small groups to help them understand and manage their emotions. They provide a safe, supportive environment where children can talk about their worries, build confidence and develop strategies to cope with challenges they may be facing.

ELSA support can help children with:

  • Anxiety and worries
  • Friendships and social skills
  • Building confidence and self-esteem
  • Managing emotions
  • Bereavement and loss
  • Family changes, such as separation or divorce
  • Emotional regulation and resilience

If you feel your child would benefit from emotional support in school, please speak to your child's class teacher, Mrs Paula Nield, or a member of our safeguarding team. We will always work with you to identify the most appropriate support for your child.

Additional Support

If your child has Special Educational Needs or Disabilities (SEND) that may be affecting their wellbeing, you are welcome to speak to our SENDCO, Clare Fisher, who will be happy to discuss your child's needs and the support available.
