Welcome to Year 4! In Year 4, we strive to deliver an engaging curriculum that will excite children and develop their curiosity. Through this curriculum, children will develop a wide range of vocabulary along with reading, writing and oracy skills. They will learn through a range of practical and written tasks and we will provide them with first hand experiences to support their learning wherever possible.
We understand this year is going to be a little different to others, so please do not hesitate to speak to one of us on the playground after school or make an appointment.
Children will have P.E twice a week: indoor and outdoor. They will need a full P.E kit in school every week. The P.E kit will consist of black shorts, leggings or tracksuit bottoms and a red or white plain t-shirt, with or without the school logo. Trainers or pumps are also required. In colder weather, children will still have P.E outside so will need a warm jumper, fleece or hoodie.
We expect your child to read at least 3 times a week. They should be listened to read out loud by an adult who then records and signs it in their reading record.
Each week, your child will have a set of number facts, times tables and spellings to learn.
Encouraging them to spend a little bit of time each day learning these will really make all the difference.
In the Summer term, Year 4 will have to take a national multiplication test, so it is also essential that your child practises these facts regularly up to 12x12.
Please allow your child to access TT Rockstars, Active Learn and Spelling Frame (apps or online) to support their learning at home. also.
Children get fruit for a playtime snack everyday. We ask that you send them in with £1 to cover the cost of this every Monday.
In Year 4 we use Class Dojo to share how your child has been doing in school. You will receive a parent login to access this. You will also be able to communicate with me through this.
