Cooking and Nutrition

Children from Nursery-Year 6 all have the experiences of working with food. They are taught how to cook and apply the principles of nutrition and healthy eating. As they do this, they are encouraged to explore their own individual, creative strategies to successful cooking, which in turn instils a love of cooking. Children become aware that learning how to cook is a crucial life skill and will remain important throughout their adult life.

Children learn the basic principles of a healthy and varied diet when preparing their dishes. Whilst doing this, they participate in discussions about where food comes from. In older year groups, they use a range of cooking techniques when creating their dishes, whilst participating in discussions about not only where food comes from, but how a variety of ingredients are grown, reared, caught and processed.
