Governance 

The Governing Board at Holy Trinity CE Primary School is made up of dedicated volunteers who bring a wide range of skills, knowledge and experience from education, business, local communities and the Church. Working alongside the Headteacher, governors play an important role in ensuring that our school continues to provide the very best education for every child.

Governors are responsible for the strategic leadership of the school rather than its day-to-day management. They work closely with the Headteacher to provide both support and challenge, ensuring that the school remains focused on delivering high-quality education, using resources effectively and continually improving outcomes for our pupils.

As a Church of England school, our Foundation Governors have a particular responsibility for preserving and developing the Christian character of Holy Trinity. Together, the Governing Board ensures that our Christian vision and values underpin all aspects of school life while maintaining our commitment to welcoming children and families of all faiths and none.

The Governing Board meets regularly throughout the academic year to consider all aspects of school life, including curriculum, pupil achievement, safeguarding, finance, staffing, health and safety, and the progress of the School Development Plan. Governors also visit the school to see learning in action, meet with staff and pupils and develop a first-hand understanding of the school's strengths and priorities.

Most governors serve a four-year term of office and may be reappointed or re-elected at the end of their term. The Headteacher is an ex officio governor by virtue of their role, while Foundation Governors are appointed in accordance with the school's Instrument of Government.

The role of the Governing Board is to:

  • Ensure the school's Christian vision and values are reflected in every aspect of school life.
  • Set the strategic direction and priorities for the school.
  • Promote high standards of achievement and wellbeing for every pupil.
  • Hold school leaders to account for the quality of education and the performance of the school.
  • Ensure that the school's finances are managed responsibly and provide good value for money.
  • Approve, monitor and review key school policies.
  • Oversee safeguarding, health and safety, staffing and statutory responsibilities.
  • Act as a critical friend by supporting and constructively challenging school leaders.
  • Strengthen links between the school, families, the Church and the wider community.

Accountability:

The Governing Board is accountable to parents and carers, pupils, the Diocese, the Local Authority, the Department for Education and the wider community. Governors are committed to acting with integrity, transparency and in the best interests of every child at Holy Trinity.
