The SENCO and Deputy SENCO are responsible for co-ordinating the provision of support for pupils with special educational needs throughout the school. Their duties involve:

• day to day operation of the Special Educational Needs Policy;

• maintaining the Special Educational Needs Register;

• providing advice and liaising with staff on the completion of Individual Education Plans (IEPs);

• working alongside staff in assessing pupils’ needs and ensuring that pupils make progress;

• overseeing and maintaining specific resources for special educational needs;

• liasing with outside agencies;

• contributing to the in-service training of staff;

• monitoring, evaluating and reporting SEN provision to the governing body in conjunction with the designated responsible person;

• liaising with parents /carers of children with special educational needs alongside the class teacher.

Mrs Lesley Owen - Pastoral Support /Child Protection Officer

In my 'Pastoral Support' role I work with children, either individually or in small groups, regarding self-esteem, bereavement, emotional issues and behaviour management. Together we set appropriate targets to improve behaviour and I liaise with families in order to achieve the most effective support.

My role also involves setting up and running clubs and courses to support families. Examples of this include healthy cooking/eating, positive parenting and surviving difficult times with teenage children.

Along side Mr Brereton, as Child Protection Officer I am responsible for ensuring that all our pupils are safe. Where necessary, I make referrals to appropriate external agencies in order to safeguard families.I offer support during these difficult times and attend all appropriate meetings on behalf of school/families.
